In today's fast-paced, technology-driven world, road trips have lost their charm due to constant phone use. iSpy: The Roadtrip Game is designed to bring back the excitement of road trips, promoting social interaction and mindfulness. This hands-free mobile application is perfect for all ages, ensuring every game is unique, competitive-ready, and free from ads.
The Problem: Road trips are less enjoyable when we are glued to our phones. iSpy encourages putting devices down and enjoying the journey. It fosters social interactions within families or groups and promotes mindfulness by helping players stay present and engaged.
Setup: Players determine the trip duration, select participants, create a list of items to spot, and choose gamemodes. The free version allows up to 14 days of gameplay with 5 players, while the premium version extends this to 30 days with 14 players. Lists are based on expected sightings, with location-based suggestions available.
Playing: The game is active whenever all players are in the car. Points are awarded to the first person to call out and identify an item, as long as at least one other person saw it too. The interface displays the current list, point values, history, and settings. Voice commands through the SPOT feature keep the game hands-free.
Features: iSpy includes gamemodes like inflation, influx, multipliers, and dividers. Inflation mode sees items gain value over time but lose value when called. Influx mode causes item values to fluctuate randomly. Multipliers and dividers add surprise by randomly adjusting point values. The SPOT feature allows hands-free play by recognizing voice commands and automatically processing points. Suggestions based on user-created lists enhance game relevance. Cashouts calculate penalties and incentives for competitive play. Regular updates introduce new features and improvements.
Made solo using all free libraries for react native because I could not afford any of the paid services. Used Expo for easier development, which I think helped a lot. Chat GPT was for any questions and really had good answers most of the time, but sometimes had no idea what it was talking about.
